Welcome to the BGCAPP website. Providing information to our stakeholders, suppliers and potential employees.

Message From the
Project Manager
Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass (BPBG) is the systems contractor selected by the Department of Defense’s Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives program to design, build, systemize, test, operate and close the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) to destroy the chemical weapons stockpile at the Blue Grass Army Depot in Kentucky.
In 2023, the BPBG workforce successfully destroyed the last chemical weapon stored at the Depot in Richmond. The final chemical weapon, an M55 rocket containing GB nerve agent, was destroyed July 7, 85 days ahead of the nation’s Sept. 30, 2023 Chemical Weapons Convention treaty commitment.
This is an historic milestone not only for our project, but also for Richmond, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the United States and the world. This is truly an accomplishment with global impact.
Since destroying the last chemical weapon, our BPBG team has been processing secondary waste through our two Static Detonation Chamber facilities and preparing the Main Plant for demolition. We anticipate our mission will be safely completed in 2027.
Our focus on safety has not wavered throughout the years of our work, even in the most hazardous environment and during a world-wide pandemic. In 2025, we reached 17 million hours of work performed without a lost time accident, a record in the history of chemical demilitarization in the U.S.
As we conclude our activities in Richmond, Bechtel, Parsons, our teaming partners – Amentum, Battelle Memorial Institute and GP Strategies – and our entire workforce will remain centered on safety and leaving a legacy of good citizenship.
